Day 2 July 10 :

Enjoy a hearty breakfast.

Half day tour of historic Port Royal including a treasure hunt in town going to various heritage sites including Fort Charles (which was the model for the fort in Pirates of the Caribbean), the Maritime Museum, the old naval cemetery, and St. Peter’s Church where we have special permission to view the articles donated by Sir Henry Morgan which he “acquired” from one of his raids on Spanish ships. From Port Royal we also get a view of the infamous Gallow’s Point where many convicted pirates were hanged.

Lunch on own. Afternoon city tour of Kingston.

This evening enjoy an educational presentation by JNHT marine archaeologist on historical Port Royal, the earthquake in 1692, research efforts including the 1981 Port Royal Project, and discussion of what researchers see when they dive to the Sunken City of Port Royal. Viewing of artifacts from research and excavations. Evening reception including snacks and drinks.
